Healing the Wounds of the Past- TD Jakes Sermons

I purchased this book a few years ago together with the DVD. I thought it would be really helpful to read up one experiences faced by women. Some are heart-wrenching to say the least.

Watching the DVD and seeing how the women respond to T.D Jakes points are both entertaining and yet so poignant. The tears, laughter and jubilation at how God can set women free and heal them are really inspirational and moving.

“Woman, Thou Art Loosed!” is about healing the wounds of the past – traumas, tragedies, disappointments. God is a magnificent healer. There is nothing too difficult for
Him. Many examples of brokenness are given such as:

1. Broken homes often produce broken children
2. Molestation
3. Rape
4. Abuse
5. Effects of adultery
6. Deception is emotional rape
We may have gone through horrible times but Jesus is interceding on our behalf and his grace is so sufficient for our needs.

Chapters of the Book- TD Jakes Sermons

The first chapter is the ‘Infirmed Woman’ and speaks about the person, the problem and the prescription. It takes God’s word to put the past under your feet. “Every woman has something she wishes she could forget……………Forgetting isn’t a memory lapse; it is a memory release!” The last chapter deals with ‘Breaking The Chain’. It can be summarised in this paragraph:
“God knows there is a Sarah, a Rahab, a woman at the well, a Ruth, or even a Mary in you. Hidden inside of you is a great woman who can do great exploits in His name. He wants that woman to be set free. He wants that potential within you to be unleashed so you can become the person you were created to be.”

The Cure for the Wicked Heart- TD Jakes Sermons

Some of the issues portrayed are so far removed from my own experience as a woman but I empathise. This book is certainly for the “single parent, battered wife, abused girl and insecure woman. There is a cure for the crisis……………..and a deep cleansing for those inaccessible areas of the feminine heart.”

TDJakes, New York Times bestselling author of Reposition Yourself, Making Great Decisions, and more than a dozen other titles, now presents this book on forgiveness, demonstrating once again why he is called “a spiritual genius,” a “master of meeting mankind eye to eye,” and one of America’s best preachers.

Understanding TDJakes Sermons

He understands that he and fellow Christians share spiritual truths “that transcend time and culture and reflect a universal understanding of human nature.” The spiritual truth he explores in Let It Go concerns forgiveness and why it is important for those on the receiving end of wrongful behavior as well as those who commit acts of wrongdoing.

“Forgiveness is the key!” -TDJakes Sermons

“Forgiveness is a big idea and it works best when it is invested into people who have the courage to grasp the seven-foot-high idea of what’s best for their future rather than the four-foot-high idea of recompense for what has happened in their past,” TDJakes writes in Let It Go. This book explores forgiveness as an idea and at the same time offers specific and clear actions for readers who seek to apply the idea in their daily lives. Offenses are a part of life, he says. But conflicts can be resolved and relationships do have a future, if we learn how to forgive. No matter how great or small the injustice, TDJakes Potter House shows how the matter can be put behind you for the sake of a better tomorrow if you can Let It Go.

By B. Jordan “laws of thinking” (New York)

Reposition Yourself is a profound work that teaches the reader how to understand life lessons through key principles that will reposition his/her life for success. Bishop T.D. Jakes allows us to peek through the eyes of his soul and witness his journey of life as he conquered the fears in his childhood and fought his way to top to eventually lead one of the largest churches of our time.

Repositioning Yourself allows the reader to put himself/herself in the position of Zacchaeus, who repositioned himself so he could see Jesus. Through practical principles, Bishop Jakes teaches his readers how to live life without limits. Bishop Jakes provokes his readers to take a hard, face-to-face look at their lives and what they are doing to position themselves to win. Bishop Jakes shares his struggles and his wisdom on how to fight life’s battles and how he eventually overcame those struggles and repositioned himself to win. According to Bishop Jakes, “You cannot win against that which you will not see and confront.” He shares with his readers how he was fighting, but he was not aiming at anything. You must fight with a purpose. Intent is vital for success to be achieved in life.

In the chapter entitled, “Lost and Found”, Bishop Jakes introduces us to another interesting personality in scripture – Joseph. Being the excellent orator that he is, I can hear him in my head preaching this truth. He tells us that “Joseph was bound by his circumstances, but he overcame them by using his gifts.” Bishop Jakes brings us to a place in consciousness where we begin to learn how to move from the mundane to the miraculous. Moving from the point of captivity to the point of power requires you to reposition yourself mentally so that your gifts can unlock the favor in your life that ultimately will help change the destiny of a nation.

Bishop Jakes reveals the riptide of change that can overtake a person’s life as a result of shame, as it did Adam and Eve in the garden. Shame will cause a person to hide himself/herself. When shame comes into the picture it will open you to a new reality and cause you to reassess your next steps in life. I like what Bishop T. D. Jakes says – “If you are to reposition yourself for success, you must seek out the options that are most conducive to your ultimate goals.” This is a key point and will make the difference between success and failure in life.

Congratulations, Bishop T. D. Jakes on a work well penned! I am sure that the world will hear this message and be provoked to reposition their lives for success. You have written yet another work that looks like it will be a New York Times bestseller. I will continue to see you in your writing.

Even as a child, he was known in his West Virginian neighborhood as “the bad Bible boy.” He was also told he would never be able to preach because of his “bad” lisp. Shortly after his father’s death from kidney failure, Jakes decided to go into ministry.

In 1979, with very little funds of his own and with only ten initial members, he founded Greater Emmanuel Temple of Faith as a storefront church in Montgomery, West Virginia. Jakes maintained his day job digging ditches in order to support his ministry until the church was able to support him. During its first 10 years, the church grew to over 1,000 members. In 1982, Jakes turned to full-time ministry.

By 1990, his church had moved twice, first from Montgomery to the nearby community of Smithers, and from there to his hometown of South Charleston. In 1993, the church moved yet again within the Charleston area, to Cross Lanes; the building having been formerly a bank.
In 1995, when he was 38 years old, Jakes started his television ministry. In 1996, Jakes founded The Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas, with about 50 families that had relocated with him from his former congregation in Cross Lanes.

Jakes purchased the property, which was previously Eagle’s Nest Family Church, from W. V. Grant, after Grant was sentenced to 16 months in prison for tax-related crimes. In its 12 year existence, it has grown to over 30,000 members. Both Jakes and his Potter’s House church are unrelated to the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship, a Pentecostal denomination.

In the fall of 2009, Jakes planned on launching a secular daily talk show, syndicated through the CBS Television Distribution group; however, economic troubles in the industry may put his new program into jeopardy.
In 2005 Jakes accompanied President George W. Bush on his visit to the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. In his book Decision Points, President Bush describes Jakes as “a kind of man who puts faith into action.”

On January 20, 2009, Jakes led the early morning prayer service for President Barack Obama at St. John’s Church in Washington, D.C., according to NBC News. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._D._Jakes
